Health and Fitness: Health
Many medical health conditions have been with us for centuries, such as heart disease, cancer,
and stroke. Other serious health diseases and problems have come and gone, such as scurvy, measles,
and other diseases we have built up immunities to now. With every passing year, we get better at
discovering cures, health treatments, therapy, or just simply finding a new health treatment that
works better than the last one. Arthritis conditions are on the rise since the overall average U.S.
population is getting older.
Knowing more about certain health conditions can make it easier to treat. Getting educated on an
illness or disease improves your chances of successfully treating health problems. Some of the more
common health conditions disorders and problems are here to review.
In the United States, health problems have become the focus of many doctors as well as politicians.
There is an epidemic when considering health problems caused by obesity with over 60% of Americans
overweight or morbidly obese. The reality is that overweight Americans have become an embarrassment
as other countries tighten their belts. With the outright obese conditions in the U.S., it ranks
among the top modern health problems of the last century. Few other health conditions have a more
far reaching and costly consequences as obesity.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov), heart disease is
the top leading cause of death in the U.S. with cancer close behind. Cancer is second, projected
to become the leading cause of death worldwide in 2010. Following is a list from the CDC of the
top ten fatal diseases in the U.S. during 2009:
- Heart disease
- Chronic lower respiratory diseases
- Alzheimer's disease
- Influenza and Pneumonia
- Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis
Chronic fatigue is another common health condition that is a symptom of mental health disorders
such as anxiety and depression. Fatigue is also a symptom of many other health conditions, so it is
sometimes difficult to tell which health condition the symptoms are for. The best way to evaluate
health conditions and symptoms is to look at all the facts. Go by process of elimination to isolate
the illness. Then, check with a doctor to confirm your suspicions.
One example of a health condition that may be difficult to spot at first is Diabetes. Health
conditions for those with diabetes are particularly debilitating. Some of the top warning signs and
symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination and unquenchable thirst because there is too much
glucose in the blood. Other symptoms of diabetes are losing weight without trying, weakness and
fatigue, and tingling in hands, legs, or feet.
In order to stay fit and be in the best health condition possible, get exercise regularly. Start
slow, doing perhaps twenty minutes of cardio three or four times per week. As you get more fit, you
can bump it up to more times per week for a longer, or more strenuous workout. Also, eat a balanced
diet full of vegetables, fruit, and lean meat.
